There's so much to say about this album to be honest. like I'll prob keep coming back and editing this post for sure. It's been 4 years in the making. Funded partially by Canada Council. I say partially because I actually got approved for a 3 or 4 song EP, but when the funding came through, Junia-T and I sat down to choose which ones will be part of the project and WE COULDN'T CUT ANY. like fam, it just all slapped. So we're like fuck it let's do an album! I stretched the fuck out of those funds let me tell you lolol. with help from the community and friends, venues, videographers etc. I'm ecstatic we pulled it off!! BAMN (by any means necessary). Even though we recorded the first song 4 years ago and the most recent one almost a year ago, the sound is cohesive af. I can hear the growth from song to song, but the order I put it in is NOT the order they were recorded in! Although that would have been a dope concept damn, but honestly it's better this way, I got to really listen to it for a few months and arrange the order via my own ear while im doing other things. I wanted to see how it flowed as background music, or as a blunted listening sesh. so far, still obsessed lmao. But holy shit dude I can't believe we are a week away from the album dropping. It's been so much hard ass work and I'd do it all over again. I have plans for this album too, I want to find a way to incorporate more of my YYC fam so we will def be doing remix projects, and I'll leave that there…hehe. The cover art was fun because we went and did a 4 hour photoshoot with Gracious Chaos Photography. with 4 diff outfits, and we were just gathering pics, so i could up my press pic game and also some shots for the album. even some shots of me holding an invisible tea pot lmao. out of all the shots we took, me fcking around in the bathtub, spliff break, gracious stopped me and was like wait hold that right there. im like wtf u talking bout so i held it but couldn't hold back my laughter at the sillyness of it. and THAT candid pic ended up being the cover art!! Catfish The Wizard took it, changed the colors, cuz i wanted the mood of my album to be blues and purples, and he flipped the colors up and created that heart in the corner. He also created my new logo! He also did the intro if you didn't know already hehe. I came up with the title of the album cuz I legit sat back and was like, oh the common thread in the whole album is Love. and im a sucker for double entendres, so, it's either, It's All Love, or it's all love. did u actually read that different? dope. if u didn't then please go back and act accordingly lolol. jks. 

i was blessed to have Only1KNG and junez be working together on this album. they are a sick duo. Proud to represent Alberta and really show ppl in tdot how dope berta is. duh. hip hop never died, i've watched it thrive in this province since I was 16, the rest of the country just didn't respect it till recently.

Well…I mean where do I start. first of all, if you read my blogs you'll know not to worry about my punctuation, i'm journaling, couldn't care less. 

soooo intro 2….first of all, we called this “intro” at first then i realized that i already had a song called intro so I called it intro 2. like intro 2 tea, intro 2 as in the 2nd intro. it's also to make ppl question if I really do have another album out there somewhere. I took my first 2 albums off streaming platforms getting ready for this new album to drop. just a bit of a more polished platform. but they are still available on my website and bandcamp. okok so the intro 2….this is the only song on the whole album that's not Junia-T and Only1KNG. the album was DONE. but catfishthewizard created this beat and it was absolutely a must have. let me tell u how the beat came about thoooooooo. so catfish is my fave human in the world, and we got into a little tiff. miscommunication at the end of the day, no need for deets. but he went home that wknd and reflected and this beat was born! he literally named it MajesTea. like whaaaat. a beat made just for me???  so when he showed me the beat, i froze for about 20 min or so (he said) and i was writing. i actually wrote out most of the intro in that moment right there. including the lines: wizard timing is what we're on, if you can catch it then it's nuance, have a debate then right after get the glue on, cuz we still friends we ain't leavin till it's resolved" and this is before he was telling me that the beat was for me, or how it was created….so THEN about a week later, we did a psilocybin spell and  he told me how the beat came about and I told him that what I wrote had to do with our little tiff also!!!!! kismet. rebecca janz was there and i was like, girl, you gotta lay vocals down behind this. and wala, intro 2 was born!!! 

So i was super inspired by Junia-T's intro on studio monk, it's wildly different then the rest of the album but also the same, and I was thinking i would love to do something like that. so i kind of manifested this maybe? i dunno lolol. when it was done i was like this has to be the intro, then Junez was like, fam that should be the intro AND the outro!  so we split it, you can listen to the full song as a single or through the album you'll hear it cut then come back in to finish off the album. i'm obsessed.

Track 1 is It's All Love because “I chose not to change myself but change access to my love” I can give all the love I want, just because others have abused it in the past, doesn't mean I have to stop giving, just change those who I give it to.

Wow this song was the last song we layed down for the project. I'm still in shock this album is coming out aaahhh. anyway, glad junez puts the year in the file name lolol. well this was late 2023. I remember it was cold for the spliff outside, and I also remember smokin wit junez and just bitching about my back as I'm stretching. and i said in convo, i've been goin so hard I got back aches, can't take a break tho or I'm considered weak lolol. funny in the moment, kinda sad when you think too much into it, don't, I'm fine lolol. but after that spliff i went into the studio and just started writing, and the first couple lines are literally, "i been going so hard i got back aches, take a rest then i'm soft so i let my back break?" The 2nd half of my verse i absolutely LOVE cuz it actually came from another song but I'm no longer using it so i kinda chopped it up and used it for this song instead! i love it so much cuz its a string of opposites and I dont even know if people really catch it lol. from “emotions run HIGH so i'm LOW, heads HOT i must have a COLD” then the 3rd line in each of the 4 bars is just a normal line, then it goes back into opposite. “can't stitch for tik but i can sow, im so REAL they project and call me FAUX, the circle is SHRINKING i GROW, the WISER you are LESS you know, looked like my life just be wrapped in a bow wanna switch lemme know lemme know take a poll” i finish the 8 bar with a switching metaphor, and you can switch pole for poll too. jumping poles. i dunno, it can mean a lot but i just meant like literally take a poll. cuz poll's aint actually shit, like wanting to switch to the grass that's greener on the other side. ya know? anyway. Ice Tha One is always a force. She came with it. You'll have to pick her brain about her verse. But going back and forth like that in the verse was fkn fun! we were both just sittin on the couch in the studio like, what u got, ok i got this, ok i like what u said, ima come back in with…it was dope. so in the hook we legit just go back and forth and that was us freeflowin on the couch hehe. Ok lemme put the song on and see if i can remember anything else bout this track. Ouuuu I touch on the first time I had people singing my lyrics before the first hook even came. like they knew and loved my music before I even got there! Yellowknife will always have my heart. I also got to sign autographs in my own city for Folk Fest in 2023 and that whole summer was just….i mean BIG. so….it seems right that this song is recorded late 2023 coming off of an amazing run of shows in different provinces…EVERYTHING I DO IS BIG. that's how I was feeling hehe. 

Track 2 is It's All Love because I get to touch on the love the community gives me and all I wanna do is do things BIG to make them proud!

Wow  2022 we recorded this joint. I remember that was the first time I met Teon Gibbs, he was chillin in the studio. It was a temp studio cuz the one we usually record at was under construction or some shit. I don't remember 2022 was wild too lolol. So this was def a super late chill vibe too. we was legit just chillin and the cook up ensued! I remember seeing Ice in the corner going off and all i hear is OPPOSITE OF YOUR BITCH. i was like oh fuck ya. 

“sounds like ice with the tambourine” is cuz i am obsessed with Ice's Monstar album and she's big on the tambourines. even with her live performances its dope! Ashlee was in the room too! There's prob footage of this somewhere cuz she a dope filmographer. I remember I turned to her like, damn what should we write about today ash? she's like i dunno, how about you think you love something but turns out it's not what you think. i was like hmmmm i like that. so i started with “i been up all day but i stay up just for you, thought that i was playing but you acting like a youth, Feeling cray see your mistakes thought i was happy feeling great, the smoke screen fade, turned out to be my fortitude”  Another fave line of mine i guess. When I'm in the studio with greats like Junia-T and Ice, you just kinda make sure you step up the plate. Plus I was really tryna impress Teon lolol. Not cuz it's Teon, but cuz I have a thing to see new people's reaction after I spit. It's a cool feeling hehe. And you know me and love of local art so I was already a fan before we met that eve. 

ok so the singing….yes i know. but hear me out….ive always wanted to sing! and junez knows this, i think he was indulging me lol. we had recorded our verses, and the hook and he's like, it needs a bridge or sumn why don't u sing sumn. im like mmmmmm. but we have a singer in the building already, ice lolol. naw he let me have my moment. i came up with this lil melody, and what you hear is what you hear now. my nerves, my anxiousness, me pushing through fears and just..being. I know it's not perfect, and that's VERY on brand for me hehe. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it. so. 

Track 3 is It's All Love because the vibe don't lie boo. This song is about fake love, or false love. It's not meant to be false, maybe cuz they don't know how to love you or anyone yet either, but either way I'ma look back to a whole closed door like buh bye. Boundaries are important

I mean…..this song is mad vulnerable lolol. But it's interesting how it came about. I couldn't recite the original verse I wrote for this. prefer not to actually lol. it was one of the rare verses I wrote in the moment that I didn't actually go with on this album. I just didn't want this beat to fall to anyone else, gotta stay hungry. so i wrote something in the studio, recorded it and took it home to finish. It reminded me of fun elevator music, and i thought it would be funny if i did something kinda opposite. i was originally going to write about miscarriages on this but i didn't want to go that dark, so instead i wrote about the consequences of those troubles that i'm still dealing with today…smoking too much weed lol. full discretion, my manager hates this song, in a loving joking way, cuz on the surface i'm “bashing weed” but if you're reading this then you know it's about a lot more than that, and also i literally say im just tryna get down to one spliff a day as opposed to my current state of smoking all day every day. like any drug, moderation is important. after i recorded this track i was so iffy about putting it on the album, because i wasn't sure if it's relatable but more importantly, can i perform it??  So I started throwing it into random set lists where I felt it appropriate to pull it out. and it got great reception so i was shocked of course. and i had to ask junez again right before we put the album together like hey, does this belong on here, and he's like ya man. its mad relatable. turns out there were a few tracks on the album i had to ask him if it's even relatable. writing this now, i bet those will end up being the ones that ppl come up to me about hehe. ah so it go

The song is about me running away from my sober thoughts. i smoke as soon as i wake. and even though i go to sleep with tears some nights, i smoke till i sleep. when i'm high i can focus on what needs to get done except take care of myself, hence the lack of walking and laundry lolol. Ice Tha One is not on the track but she was in the studio in Jan 2024 when we were mixing the album, she's basically mixing assistant! she suggested Truss throw some harmonies under me, what i had was just a placeholder and i was ecstatic that he was there to lay it down because I love his voice so much. He's mad talented. I mean duh he's one half of TRP.P. And don't get me wrong, we all smoking before, during (breaks, not inside), and after the song was recorded. i always say in performances now, hey, this isn't a victory song, i'm still very much going through this right now and i WILL go smoke a spliff as soon as i step off this stage lolol. I've been gifted cannabis after performing this song, which i LOVE and also love the irony in the gift in resonance with the song. 

Danny DePoe came through the studio randomly to say hi to Junez, we got introduced and he was excited about these new mutes he just picked up and he was on his way home to test them out, Junez was like, well we're working on this album if you'd love to test it out in the booth on a couple tracks and boom, in one take he did this beautiful freestyle horn throughout. 
 

Track 4 is It's All Love because I have a very love hate relationship with cannabis. this song was not a victory to something I've overcome, I'm still going through it, the path is with and through love.

wow 2021. wow. how many of these have i started with wow lolol. anyway I don't remember if I had met Keira during this session or just a little bit before this but it was def a new relationship and she just blew me away. She laid this hook down so me and Ice got to work writing our verses. This beat had such a knock to it that i was like yaaaaa??? ok. i just kept repeating “for the love ive lost to the love of it” and im asking ice like, yo does this even make sense? it just came to me. i can make sense of it, but like is it too “out there” ya know? but we here now so yall know the answer lolol. Junez likes to have convos and chill and smoke before the sesh even really starts and Ashlee and I were talking about a post she had done the week before. it said “ I don't chase I attract everything” and it was her writing it in the mirror, i was asking how that was going with the manifesting and all that. good of course, i mean we all doing it and 3 years later look where we at hehe. Junez was the only dude in the studio that night and so at one point we were chanting big feminine energy for some reason lolol. so that's where i got the line i dont chase i attract everything, ashlee! yo we got that big feminine energy!"  i love pulling from our convos. and fully understood the process junez has for creating. i trusted in it. and we here now. oh i just realized i should put a line in each one of these like, how it pertains to love. 

Track 5 is It's All Love because we love ourselves so much that we are telling a partner, hey I hope you're ready for me cuz I got all this love for me already, can you match my love energy?

I meaaaannn. my mom kept complaining about not having a song for her, so I did this one but also like for all boss business owners everywhere. But really the inspo came from Highku, don't tell my mom. lol jks, she'll still get another song eventually but she should definitely hold this one as a placeholder hehe. I'm kinda surrounded by boss bish business owners actually so this song was pretty easy to write. I wrote it, treating my music as a business and wanted a more cocky boasty vibe. It's hard to brag sometimes, but through lyrics it comes a bit easier hehe. “you cannot tell me that you'll see me at award shows, that's sumn I already know” and OMG I'm nominated for my first award at the YYC music awards AND I'm performing. wild. manifesting with karma balanced is EXTREME. By the time you're reading this I supposed we'll know if I won or not lol. who wins their first award though? I'm just there for the vibes. omg off track. ok BBBO. so this song is pretty straight forward actually. It's one of 2 songs on the album I took home and re worked from whatever we had in the studio. I just remember thinking, again, I can't let anyone else take this beat, it's dope, im selfish. and so I laid SOMETHING down. what that was in the beginning? I couldn't tell you, it's somewhere in my phone though for sure lol. I originally had the verse down with no adlibs, and Junez was like, yo add some attitude sassy adlibs behind it quick fire. i immediately understood the assignment apparently lol. It's LIT!! the power of collabs. We originally created this somewhere in 2021. But when we sat down to finalize the album, I'm like it needs something on the hook. like sumn instrumental. and junez just turned around on the keyboard and banged out those horns you hear in the hook. OMG if you could see us bouncing in that moment all over the studio dancing it was hype. no time for video to capture the moment. you just had to be there. I knew this had to be a single right there. Fast forward to shooting the video! Highku created a market in YYC and brought Mary to film a bunch of boss bish business owners at my fave venue! And they did the same in YEG, except they asked permission to film a market and featured the femme entreprenuers. So many people came out! And made some money also! Twas dope AF. Ugh, get more personal he said…get more vulnerable he said…well. What most people don't know is that Junia-T (along with Lord Quest) has actually been my mentor also for the past few years. So with every session we had it was like, get deeper (no faiza). and I'm like ok. and so…be loved was born. I remember thinking like, is this even relatable. like everyone has been in a relationship and been loved before. surely by my age. I'm in my late 30's so this is kinda sad. but he's like naw Tea, a lot of ppl will relate. I'm not gonna lie, I have had a few tears shed by a couple fans after performing this song. (literally just twice lol) but it's a good sign, i think lol. But just like Sober Thoughts, this song is just stripped the fuck down. the first line of the song is literally “I'm just bein honest” lolol. so. ya. This was another song from 2021. I think that was the year I almost moved to Tkaronto. fun side story: I actually loaded up my SUV and drove all the way from YYC  to YYZ. dropped my stuff off at my aunties, flew back a while later and lived there for a few months. and the way stuff was moving so fast for me, and then Cadence Weapon won the polaris prize and i remember bein so proud of YEG but the media mentioned mostly that he's ontario based and i want to help put YYC on the map for real, I didn't want my press to say I'm anywhere except for YYC. (mohkinstsis/calgary) period. ok so anyway, i drove back to YYZ so i can pick up all my stuff and drove back to YYC. so i drove to from YYC to YYZ and back twice in one year lolol. I'm a BAMN (by any means necessary) kinda girl. okok so this sad ass song, be loved…yes. I was tempted to name it BELOVED or something so it can be both beloved and be loved, but it just didn't make sense. I've never been loved or been a beloved lolol. ya i got family and all that, thats all love but i mean from a relationship obviously. First relationship I was in, was about 3 years long, and it was teen love. turns out he was sleepin with everyone around lmao. so i was never really important to him and we realized we were actually always just supposed to be good friends lol. RIP.  next one, early 20's, i got married! but turns out he just wanted to get in to the country and I was a foolish young little girl. Still dealing with the reprecussions of that as I sit and type. literally smh right now lolol. 

Ohhhh what was so cool about this song too is that I met Desiree Dawson in my new fave city, Yellowknife! (Thanks for putting me on to her, Aliza!)I fell obsessed with her music and overall vibe hanging out all wknd was magical. that was summer 2023. fast forward to completing the album in jan. 2024, i asked Junez like hey there's this song I've been obsessed with for the past while and a line stands out that i think would be perfect. he of course asked if we have permission but i had messaged desiree  already and got her yes! Yaaaay, “whats it like to be in love, together”  ugh. that hit. it's from her song i had on repeat: “Different - Desiree Dawson + Mikey Jose”. Please go give it a listen if you haven't heard it yet. It's absolutely beautiful. Junez just sampled that one line and looped it under me doing a little spoken word thing at the end of the song. 

OMG also i almost forgot, this song stayed the same way because of Lazuli. This song was probably one of the first ones where Junez pushed me to write and record same night. back then i was used to taking it home, mulling it over, practicing until i had it memorized because I couldn't figure out how to record, I was just reading my lyrics so the execution just wasn't there, if that makes sense. And so this flow is EVERYWHERE. This is me stumbling through a bit and just wanting to finish the verse. I could've carved it like I do with all the other ones, you know, take out some words, add some words, give it a flow people can bop along to. but then I met Lazuli at an open mic in YYZ (tkaronto/toronto) and the way she delivered her poetry, was like a mix of rap and poetry and I immediately felt comfortable enough to perform my song after. and it turns out, that the way i performed mine affected her in some influential way as well! it was such a dope interaction that evening I can't forget. So this song is very poetry, floetry as i say in the beginning haha. thank you Lazuli.

Yep, another one from 2021. we were going in! hehe. This one went through so many transitions. oh man. as raw as we kept the last song, this song started off with just the first verse and I couldnt figure out a hook or 2nd verse in the moment. it wasn't coming. so we called it. i took it home and ended up going through a little experience that was perfect inspiration. I was talking to a girl but I decided after a week that I didn't want to be with anyone that wasn't fully out yet. Nothing against where you are in your journey, but where I'm at, is that I don't have the capacity currently. So we called whatever may have been developing, off. And so my 2nd verse is pulled from that, lines like: both can't hide it's deep inside we did not choose it so please wake up cuz I am stuck no longer fooling my friends and fam about who I am and it's confusing…" And the hook I'm all about following the universe but also taking the lead and I can't quite explain it so I put it in a song to make it more confusing and now it can be interpreted however you like lmao. Follow the rhythm of the beat then let the universe take the lead. babe just let go and let be I got you whenever you're ready to come out. But that wasn't the right time for us. I remember truss was in the studio when we recorded this, this was the same night as “rap again” actually hehe. and truss had said the line about “say that with ur accent again” then I laugh, it reminded him of Lauryn Hill's infamous chuckle on that one track. I was like doooope. and now that's all you'll hear in that part now , you're welcome lolol. I'm so excited for the end of this song!! It's a sexy sax solo! Deppisch always kills it. He layed down for 2 tracks that day in the studio. just epic. Of course Junez arranged them a bit, but for the most part, especially the end, that's just him freestyling!! so dope. 

Track 8 is It's All Love because I'm basically just selfishly yelling softly at a lover that won't come around lolol

Oh wow, this experience I remember so vividly because I learned a couple lessons, one lesson I didn't realize the actual learning until a couple years later lolol. Ok so first of all, we recorded this in 2021 also. But this session in particular, we were maybe 3 or 4 sessions in and Only1KNG hit a mentor moment with me. He said, put ur personality in ur music, why don't I hear it, our conversations are so live, put that in the songs. And my high self, didn't fully know how to yet obviously but I wanted to try and hit it that night. Ok cut scene to a bit earlier, lol when Truss and I were trying to figure out how to put the fireplace channel on the tv in the studio, cuz it's a vibe lol ya'll know it's a vibe. we finally did figure it out lol ya, ok so fast forward to I'm writing my verse, and my interpretation of puttin my “personality” into my music was so fckn literal lol. That's why the intro is “yo put the fireplace channel on”  yes yall. I planned that lol. I thought, ya cool that's how ima do it. lol. And yet the verse I was laying down was very heavy stuff I had on my brain at the time. Which was the tips I was working on with junez, what's on your mind right now, lets talk about it. And then let's create. So this track is literally from angry convo's we was just havin in the studio and then the beginning is me still reminding everyone we are first world first class problems trying to change the damn channel on the tv to the fireplace lolol. I loved everything about how this song came together. Like everything else it was uber organic. Ok so now I wrote this dope verse that I'm feeling so much, but I don't have a hook, so I tell junez ima just lay the verse down and figure it out. I got to a point in my verse where i said “its still on my mind so i gotta rap again” and i was stuttering that for a couple bars as I got my shit together to continue, the next line was something I pulled from our very first song we did together “I Pray”, but irrelevant whoops cuz it was cut there! Junez stops the recording and he's like, yoo did u think of a hook fam? i said naw i was still doin the verse, no hook yet. He's like naw that's ur hook fam. And wallah, first verse and hook born there and then. from me fckn up in the booth lolol. and i love it. 

ok so now i love the verse, i'm thinkin well, truss is in the room, maybe he can lay down the 2nd verse cuz i'm stuck. but junez looked at me and he goes, you can do it fam. just keep writing. And I was thinking like I dont want to take up ppl's time blah blah and in that moment he just calmed me. we smoked outside, came back in and vibed till a next verse came out. I remember at one point asking, like how do I top that first verse without sounding like im just bitching about the same shit over and over, he's like you can literally write about anything you want it's your song. That shit opened me all the way up for some reason lol. I remember writing a love song verse for some reason and when I got to the end I was like yo if i change a few words here and there it sounds like im talking about the government. then i remember racking my brain for dope words or phrases that rhyme with government and one of my fave lines came to me, imagine if the word “you” was replaced with the government, go back again and this whole verse will fuck up your frontal brain". oh man. it was the perfect 2nd verse and now one of my fave verses I've written so far. 

omg ok so Janis?! I know right!  Well we've actually become homies in the last couple years, running into each other at events mostly and I noticed like, wow this girl works harder than me. that's rare for me to see not gonna lie hehe. So I was intrigued, fast forward to last year being the first year I voted since I was 18. I know, but politics are part of systems put in place that AREN'T for ME. But I saw this woman fighting in court like I would be fighting. time and time again. not just posting but actually in the community. So i reached out and asked if she would be down if i used one of her speeches and she said yes!! I'm grateful to Janis for giving me hope in politics honestly. There may have been plenty before her who fight like she does I'm sure of course, but because of her actually being at events that I'm at, i noticed. Politicians don't chill where I chill. I don't know why, but she outside.
